Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus 5Nm Flagship Soc Now Official
Qualcomm today has launched the upgraded version of its Snapdragon 888 flagship chip—the Snapdragon 888 Plus.
Snapdragon 888. It uses a similar Kryo 680 proce core based on ARM's Cortex-X1. But, it is clocked to 2.95GHz instead of 2.84GHz offering a boost in max speed. The rest of the cores are unchanged at 2.4GHz for the 3x Cortex-A78 cores, and 1.8GHz for the 4x Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. Unlike the SD865+ last year, Qualcomm didn't upgrade its GPU speed this time. Instead, it uses a 6th Gen Qualcomm AI Engine with 32 TOPS performance instead of 26 TOPS. This is a 20 percent performance increase versus the AI of the regular SD888. The chip is still built using Samsung's 5nm manufacturing process. The rest from memory/storage, ISP, connectivity (5G), and more are similar. Qualcomm shared that the first mobile makers to use this chip are ASUS, Xiaomi, HONOR, Motorola, and vivo. It is expected to hit the market in Q3 2021. The Snapdragon X65 5G modem will also be available to more devices later this year. The company also announced that it would be working with various carriers and OEMs to expand the presence of mmWave 5G in multiple markets. OPPO and Xiaomi will be the first two brands to launch a commercial device with mmWave support soon. Via: XDA
